A advertisement in today’s Gulf News touted the impending arrival of the iPhone to UAE and Saudi Arabian customers.  The ad states:

The UAE’s Emirates Telecommunications Corporation – Etisalat today announced that they have signed an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone 3G to the United Arab Emirates and to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through Mobily later this month. More information will be released at a later date.

The phone will be available in the UAE via Emirates Telecommunications Corp., and in Saudi Arabia via Eithad Etisalet.

Last December, we reported that authorities in Egypt had disabled the GPS functionality on the iPhone due to fears that iPhone users would be able to use the feature to pinpoint sensitive government buildings and military installations.  It’ll be interesting to see what limitations, if any, UAE and Saudi Arabian officials place on the iPhone.
