Over the past few quarters, Apple has consistently set Mac sales records and the current holiday quarter may ultimately prove to be the Mac’s most successful yet. According to recent data compiled by the NPD group, Mac sales are trending up 20% year over year, a figure which puts Apple on pace to sell anywhere between 4.1 million and 4.3 million units this holiday shopping season. By way of comparison, Apple’s largest Mac quarter to date occurred during the last quarter when the company sold 3.89 million Macs.

Commenting on the latest retail data, Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray remarked:

“This early data, along with our assumptions for international Mac sales, which are growing faster than domestic Mac sales, and the final 2 months of the quarter, implies Mac unit growth of 22%-28%, in line with the Street at about 24% y/y growth.”
