Apple this past Wednesday acknowledged that many iPhone 4S users are experiencing inexplicably poor battery life. While some users were able to fix the issue by adjusting various location service settings not everyone has been so lucky.

In a statement to the press a few days ago, Apple explained:

A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices. We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.

Following that, Apple on Wednesday issued a beta of iOS 5.0.1 to developers and today it churned out beta number two of the impending software update.

AppleInsider reports:

Apple is apparently working quickly to publicly release iOS 5.0.1, as evidenced by the company’s second beta in two days released on Friday.

People familiar with the latest build made available to iOS developers said it is known as “9A404.” It is available as a download from Apple’s developer site, or as an over-the-air update for those already running the first iOS 5.0.1 beta.

Clearly Apple is keen on resolving the iPhone 4S battery issue as quickly as possible. Other tweaks the upcoming software update will likely address include security improvements and improved voice recognition for users with Australian accents.
