Apple isn’t exactly the most social media friendly company around, and while some companies embrace social media as a means to generate buzz and hype for upcoming products, Apple won’t hesitate to sue bloggers for posting product information before they’re publicly announced.  All of which makes Apple’s recent foray into Twitter a pleasant surprise.

Apple recently launched a few new Twitter accounts, all with the intention of keeping interested media consumers abreast of the latest Movies, TV shows, Podcasts, and Music on iTunes.  This, though, isn’t Apple’s first Twitter appearance as the Cupertino-based company launched @iTunesTrailers last March, and since then, the account has amassed over 1.1 million followers.

The iTunesMusic twitter account notes that it’ll post regular, or at least we hope, updates of upcoming new releases, albums available for pre-order, iTunes LP offerings, in addition to exclusive offers.

The iTunesPodcast account, which stretches back to August 13th, notes that it will be posting a “podcast of the day” every day.

The Movies and TV twitter accounts, on the other hand, don’t offer much information aside from noting that they’ll be posting about official movie and tv updates on iTunes.

If you’d like to follow Apple’s tweets, check out twitter.com/Movies, twitter.com/iTunesTV, twitter.com/iTunesPodcasts, and twitter.com/iTunesMusic.

In any event, while this is undoubtedly a step in the right direction for Apple, you can bet your bottom dollar that you won’t see any of the higher-ups taking to public tweeting anytime soon.
