Apple removes discussion threads about Consumer Reports’ iPhone 4 test

News

Consumer Reports yesterday pulled its “Recommended” rating from the iPhone due to signal and reception issues it found on the iPhone 4. As you might expect, user discussion of the news permeated through Apple’s discussion boards. And also as you might expect, those threads are mysteriously disappearing.

TUAW reports:

If you were looking for a message thread on Apple’s support forums pointing to Consumer Reports’ article ‘not recommending’ the iPhone 4, it’s not there any more. Apple’s support forum moderators deleted the thread. Bing cached it.

If it happened once, maybe you’d say it was a glitch. But what if it happened twiceThree times? Four times, fivesix?

This, of course, isn’t the first time we’ve seen Apple moderate its discussion boards with a heavy hand. TUAW naturally wonders what in the world Apple has to gain from removing these threads. If anything, it attracts more attention to the whole saga than it would otherwise.
