All Things D is reporting that Apple wil hold a media event on March 2nd where the company will unveil the long-awaited iPad 2. Contrary to reports that surfaced late last night, the next-gen iPad is on track for its scheduled release and is not subject to any delays.

To those who intensely cares about this kind of stuff – which would be pretty much everyone in the tech ecosystem – Apple will hold its much-anticipated event on March 2, where the tech giant seems poised to unveil a new version of its hugely successful iPad.

Though Apple has yet to sent out official invites for the event, Kara Swisher notes that the event date is locked in and will take place in San Francisco, with the Yerba Buena Center for the ArtsĀ a likely locale.

The iPad 2 will by all accounts be significantly thinner, faster, and will sport a front facing camera and improved screen technology. Earlier rumors suggesting the presence of a Retina Display and an SD Card slot have since been debunked.
