AT&T brings back home activation for the iPhone

Prospective iPhone buyers no longer have to worry about going into an AT&T or Apple Store in order to activate their iPhones.  They can now purchase a phone online and activate it from the comfort of their home.  It’s time to party like its 2007!  Interestingly, though, the phone is only available for online purchase through AT&T, and not via Apple.

AT&T’s website notes that customers have 8 days to order if they want the phone to arrive in time for Christmas.  It remains unclear, however, if online ordering will remain an option after 8 days.

It’s important to point out that the online ordering process still requires customers to either port their existing number, or if they’re new customers, to undergo a security check and provide their social security number.  That said, ordering and activating an iPhone from the comfort of your home only comes into play if you’re doing it for yourself.

But if you’re in a giving mood this holiday season and would like to gift an iPhone to a friend or family member, you can always purchase an iPhone gift card from Apple instead.
