Somewhat overlooked in the news that EA had acquired the Melbourne-based Firemint was an interesting blurb from EA’s earnings conference call yesterday. Not surprisingly, EA’s mobile division is doing gangbusters, with revenue for the past quarter clocking in at $70 million, a 27% increase from the same quarter a year-ago.

But EA naturally offers mobile games across a host of platforms, so let’s break things down shall we. $16 million of EA’s revenue was from PSP games while $28 million from DS titles. The Wii, meanwhile, generated $71 million of revenue for EA during the quarter.

While overall mobile revenue is up 27%, revenue from iOS games in particular is up over 100% year over year.

Console gaming may still be king (mobile only contributes 6% to EA’s bottom line), but the recent acquisition of Firemint illustrates just how seriously EA is taking mobile gaming and just how important it views mobile gaming to its bottom line going forward.

Think about it, iOS revenue is up 100%. So while everyone is preoccupied with marketshare and the like, what developers really care about is the bottom line, and in that regard, iOS has a huge leg up on Android.
