News, Rumors

Sourced from a Chinese case manufacturer, the above schematic from MobileFun purports to show a case design for Apple’s next-gen iPhone.

The images above suggest that Apple’s upcoming iPhone will have a larger screen accomplished by shrinking the size of the bezel and extending the screen from edge to edge, a rumored feature that has been making the rounds for quite some time. Also of note is that the case suggests the iPhone 5 will have a larger home button, yet another rumor we’ve heard previously.

Another interesting point is the curvature of the iPhone 5. After going with a squared construction on the iPhone 4, Apple seem to have reverted to their curvaceous ways. The iPhone 5′s rear panel curves gently back around its edges, much like the iPhone 3G.

This likely means that the back will be metal, and could serve as a replacement for the iPhone 4′s unique side antennae which seemed revolutionary at the time, but caused so much trouble with call droppage last year.

It’s hard to know what to believe at this point, really.

While some reports have indicated the iPhone 5 will sport the same form factor as the iPhone 4, other and equally credible reports have suggested the iPhone 5 will come with a completely redesigned form factor. Just a few weeks ago we wrote that the top brass at Apple had reportedly fallen out of favor with the iPhone 4 design.

As for the dropped call problem, Apple appears to have remedied that with the CDMA iPhone 4 on Verizon by implementing a dual-antenna design.

All in all, take this report with a big grain of salt as the schematics show an iPhone with a singular flash and camera component. This flies in the face of numerous reports, and photos, pointing to an iPhone 5 with separate camera and flash modules. Moving the flash to the opposite side of the phone, away from the camera itself, will result in sharper photos as well as higher quality shots in low light conditions.

As for the rest of the report, the only thing we’d put money on at this point is an iPhone with a larger screen.
