Citing a previously accurate source, 9to5Mac relays, amongst other information, that the iPhone 5 just reached the final testing stage and is already being toted around by the higher ups at Apple and carrier executives. As for a release date, there’s been lots of talk of a Fall release date and the report confirms this with news of a September launch.
Some other tidbits:
– Apple and Verizon have yet to strike a deal regarding FaceTime over 3G for the Verizon network. Keep in mind that 3G and 4G aren’t the same thing. < Don’t read into that too much. Or maybe do.
– Apple and Verizon are still working out kinks regarding support for iOS 5′s over-the-air updates, which we broke the news about, so carrier support may or may not be delayed past fall 2011.
If a September launch date is in the cards, a special media event in August is a likely scenario for Apple to unveil its next-gen iPhone. Though whether it will be called the iPhone 4S or the iPhone 5 remains to be seen. As for some specs, the next-gen iPhone will sport an 8 megapixel camera and will likely implement an ARM Cortex-A9 processor that may be dual-core. And oh yes, it will likely be a worldmode phone capable of running on either GSM or CDMA networks thanks to a new hybrid chip from Qualcomm.
