New iPhone 5 case molding suggests new, thinner design

One day after iPhone 5 case schematics hit the web comes actual manufactured cases purporting to be molded for Apple’s next-gen iPhone.

The mold, first obtained by 9to5Mac, suggests that the next-gen iPhone will feature a larger display, a larger home button, and an overall thinner design. While 9to5Mac claims that the source for these photos is reliable and previously provided accurate case photos of the iPad 2 prior to its release, we have to note that the cases above don’t feature a separate opening for a flash component. Remember that a number of iPhone 5 rumors have pointed to a device wherein the flash module is located on the opposite side of the phone as the camera component.

We can’t tell you that the information used to build the case, that we have gotten our hands on, is different than the information revealed yesterday, but given that these cases have actually been built, and given that case manufactures are willing to spend millions of dollars on quality intelligence to maximize on the iPhone 5 launch, we have reason to believe that this iPhone 5 case is indicative of the next-generation iPhone’s design.

But truth be told, there are so many iPhone 5 reports circulating about these days it’s hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. One day the iPhone 5 sports the same form factor as the iPhone 4 and the next day we hear stories of a complete iPhone 5 redesign.

Besides, this isn’t the first purported leak of an iPhone 5 case. Back in May, photos of an iPhone 5 case with openings for a separate flash and camera module came to light. Which, if any of these cases accurately represents what Apple has in store for us come this Fall? We suppose, at this point, that only a relative handful of people inside Apple would be able to answer that. Hell, for all we know, the two cases might indicate that Apple is releasing two distinct iPhone models this Fall, an iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 model.
