The ongoing saga of the iPhone 4 antenna issue continues to take interesting turns. Yesterday evening, Apple invited members of the press to a press conference scheduled for this Friday where the company will presumably address ongoing complaints about reception problems on the iPhone 4.

Now comes word via Bloomberg that a senior engineer at Apple named Ruben Caballero told Steve Jobs, early in the design phase, that the iPhone 4’s new form facter, wherein the antenna was placed on the outside of the device, could lead to dropped calls and reception problems.

Last year, Ruben Caballero, a senior engineer and antenna expert, informed Apple’s management the device’s design may cause reception problems, said the person, who is not authorized to speak on Apple’s behalf and asked not to be identified. A carrier partner also raised concerns about the antenna before the device’s June 24 release, according to another person familiar with the situation.

Bloomberg subsequently reached out to Apple spokesman Steve Dowling who refused to comment. And so the plot thickens.
