If today’s chaos surrounding iPhone 4 pre-orders is any indication, launch day is going to be absolutely insane. From the get go, both Apple and AT&T found themselves unable to cope with booming iPhone 4 demand, and there were even reports that AT&T’s internal processing system couldn’t keep up with the orders rolling in. Some other reported problems included exceedingly long wait times for orders to be finalized, security breaches wherein private user information was exposed to others, random error messages, and multiple credit card charges.

Now that the dust has settled, somewhat, word has leaked that AT&T is completely out of their allotment of pre-order iPhone 4 models. According to Boy Genius Report, users who placed their iPhone 4 order after 4:30 Eastern Standard Time (1:30 Pacific) will receive their new iPhone anytime between June 25 and July 5th.

To be clear, the “sell-out” only refers to phones that were previously set aside for pre-orders. That being the case, you can still try your luck at going to an AT&T store and picking up a new device on a first come first serve basis.

Interestingly, AT&T sent out an official message to Engadget stating that today was the busiest online sales day in AT&T history.

Because of the incredible interest in iPhone 4, today was the busiest online sales day in AT&T history. As of Tuesday afternoon, customers who preorder iPhone 4 moving forward will receive their device on June 25 or later, depending on when the order is placed. We’ll email customers with confirmation once their order is placed, and again when it ships. In addition, we will have devices available on a first-come, first-serve basis in our stores beginning on June 24.

Hot damn, the iPhone 4 is a beast!

Meanwhile, pre-orders are seemingly still available from Apple’s online store, and don’t forget that you can also pre-order and purchase the iPhone 4 from Best Buy and Radio Shack. Walmart will also carry the iPhone 4 on launch day, but it doesn’t appear that the retailing giant is accepting pre-orders for the device at this time.
