Jonathan Geller, the Boy Genius himself, writes that a heretofore unreleased and unseen iOS 4.3.1 update will drop in the next week or two and that users can expect to see a slight improvement in battery performance in addition to a number of minor bug fixes.

We reported the changes from iOS 4.3 a few days back, and it really does look as if iOS 4.3.1 will simply fix bugs, hence the version numbering. Battery life seems a tad bit better, though that’s not scientific at all.

iOS 4.3 was released a few weeks ago and since then a number of users on Apple’s support boards have complained that the update drains the battery, with one user explaining that his iPhone drops from 100% charge to 50% charge in 6 hours with no usage during the day. Doing a factory reset does not appear to alleviate the problem so hopefully Geller is on the money with this little tidbit.
