Use your iPhone to help find missing children and wanted fugitives

Recognizing criminals on Milk cartons is so 1980’s when you can now use an iPhone instead.  A relatively new application in the iTunes App Store called “FBI Most Wanted” allows users to view pictures and listings of the most wanted men in America, and then gives them the ability to contact the nearest local FBI branch if they have any tips to report.

The application itself contains a number of the FBI’s ‘Most Wanted’ lists, and users can use the program to view the most wanted fugitives in the country, the most wanted terrorists, and even the most wanted white collar criminals.  One of the more creative and potentially useful features listed in the programs description is that the application will send out alerts whenever there is a high priority report of a missing child.  The application is available for $1.99 in the iTunes App Store, and while you might assume that such a program should be free, it should be noted that a percentage of every purchase will be donated to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

Applications on the iPhone typically make the news for being quirky and entertaining, and while that’s all great, it’s nice to see some iPhone development that can actually do some good and help rescue children and potentially save lives.  Again, it’d be nice if the FBI itself was able to come out with a free version of this app, but you have to start somewhere.

You can check out the program on iTunes over here.
