The number of lawsuits filed against Apple, some from patent trolls and some not, is staggering and continues to increase with no end in sight.

Most recently, Via Technologies, based out of Taiwan, filed suit against Apple in federal court in Wilmington, Delaware alleging that Apple’s iPhone and iPad infringe three of their patents.

The complaint reads in part, “The products at issue generally concern microprocessors included in a variety of electronic products such as certain smartphones, tablet computers, portable media players and other computing devices.”

The listed devices in the complaint include the iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4th generation, and the second-gen Apple TV. Consequently, the lawsuit appears to be tarting Apple’s ARM-based A4 and A5 processors.

We haven’t delved into the full complaint as it doesn’t seem to be up yet, but a commentator from MacDailyNews chimes in:

The Apple chips are ARM processors from ARM technology in the West of England. They will have their own patent pool for these chips, so I can’t see how they can be infringing some other set of patents. It’s like trolls trying to get infringement payouts for cell radio tech from Apple. The radios Apple use aren’t made by Apple, so how the hell can Apple infringe patents on tech used by most phone manufacturers?

Apple’s legal team sure is busy these days.
