Vimeo yesterday announced the availability of its first iPhone app. Free to download, the Vimeo app lets users watch videos in addition to letting them upload and manage content. Video footage can be uploaded to Vimeo in either standard or high definition, and conversely, videos can be downloaded to the iPhone’s Camera Roll.

With respect to editing, the Vimeo app gives users the ability to trip clips and edit disparate clips together with transitions, special effects, and background music.

Other features include:

• Pause/resume uploads and get reminded when a video is paused
• Edit title, description, tags, privacy and credits
• Share with Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, WordPress, Email or SMS
• Add your clips to your Groups, Channels and Albums
• Stats on daily plays, likes and comments
• Save edited videos to your camera roll or upload directly to Vimeo
• Easily like, comment and add videos to your Watch Later queue
• Discover new and interesting videos in the Browse tab

Vimeo is quite proud of their new app and features it prominently on their homepage. In case anyone was wondering, the app was coded by Laan Labs and Vimeo has plans to bring an iPad and Android version of the app to the market very soon. First, though, Vimeo wants to work out any potential kinks that might arise in the iPhone version before expanding to other platforms.

And good thing the year isn’t 2009 because Apple might have otherwise banned the app for duplicating iMovie functionality. I kid, I kid.

You can check out the app on iTunes over here.
