MacRumors has the scoop on new patent filings by multi-touch guru Wayne Westerman that shed some light on what multi-touch gestures might soon be coming to your iPhone.  The multi-touch gestures generally relate to making typing more efficient by giving often used characters and commands their own specific swipes.  For example, a one finger swipe to the left would delete the last letter typed, a two finger swipe to the left would delete the entire word, and a three finger swipe to the left would delete the entire line.  Other swipes would enable the quick addition of a period, or a quick way to utilize the Caps Lock, Spacebar, and Return functions.

It’s nice to see that Apple isn’t resting on its laurels and is still refining the iPhone user experience to make it as efficient and productive as possible.

MacRumors has more on the story over here, and the original patent application can be found over here.

These filings aren’t “new” – they are from June of 2007… And note that there is still no copy/paste functionality implied here. Grrrrr.
