Palm Pre might be a Sprint exclusive for more than 6 months

The Palm Pre hit store shelves today, or at least it did in theory.  I checked out a Best Buy and a Sprint retail shop and the only sign that the Palm Pre even existed was a small poster at Sprint that said “Pre coming soon.”

Regardless, reviews for the Pre have been overwhelmingly positive, and by all accounts, it looks to be the first device to clearly be in the iPhone’s league.  One of the Pre’s downsides, though, is that it’s a Sprint exclusive.  Initially, reports indicated that the Pre would head over to Verizon after 6 months, but in an interview today, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse (a.k.a Mr. Black and White) all but said that Sprint will have the exclusive distribution rights of the Pre for much longer than 6 months.

They need to check their facts.  That just is not the case. Both Palm and Sprint have agreed not to discuss the length of the exclusivity deal. But I can tell you it’s not six months.

Does Hesse know something we don’t? (yes)  Or is he maybe trying to woo over Verizon customers who were otherwise planning to purchase a Pre in 6 months? (perhaps).
