Phil Schiller just announced new iPhone hardware called the iPhone 3GS, and it’s hella fast.  Loading a game like SIMS is 2.4x faster than it is on the iPhone 3G, opening up an Excel attachment loads 3.6x faster, and accessing an intensive website like the NY Times loads 2.9x faster than the iPhone 3G.

Confirming earlier reports, it includes a higher megapixel camera with auto-focus functionality.  It also includes a new feature called “tap to focus”. Low light and Macro camera modes will also be included.

Now onto video.  The new iPhone 3GS captures video at 30fps, and iPhone 3.0 will include pertinent API’s so developers can build in video recording capabilities right into their apps.

Great battery life as well, with 10 hours of video playback, 30 hours of music playback, 12 hours of 2G talk time and 5 hours of 3G talktime.

Includes voice control features.

The new iPhone 3GS will be $199 for 16GB and $299 for 32GB, and will come in both black and white.

Hits stores June 19.
