Apple acquires right to “TabletMac” trademark

Well this sure is pretty interesting.  It turns out that Axiotron, a company that takes MacBook screens and transforms them into tablets, has relinquished the rights to the trademark, “TabletMac”, having transferred ownership of the trademark over to Apple on November 6, 2008.  We should also point out that Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak joined Axiotron’s board of directors last year.

Apple’s trademark acquisition certainly lends even more credibility to a multitude of rumors which suggest it’s planning to release a tablet sometime in 2010.  At the same time, bear in mind that Apple has been toying, on and off, with an idea for a tablet computing device for years now, and it’s entirely possible that the process to acquire the aforementioned trademark began years before the tablet even seemed like a viable commercial product.  Still, our eyebrows remain on high alert.
