Patently Apple reports on a newly granted patent issued to Apple which covers an assortment of new multitouch gestures. According to the description, these new multitouch gestures take into account finger placement at the beginning of a multitouch gesture, which as you can tell, opens up a multitude of new possibilities while also making some complex and unique commands possible to achieve with only one hand.

The patent is credited to both John Elias and Wayne Westerman, who you might recognize as the co-founders of FingerWorks which was bought out by Apple in 2005.
