News

Oddly enough, there’s been a disproportionate amount of iPad/Israel news over the past few weeks.

First, there was the story regarding the temporary iPad ban instituted by the Israeli Communications Ministry which prohibited travelers from bringing iPads into the the holy land. The stated reason behind the decision was that the device wasn’t compliant with Israeli wi-fi standards – a perplexing explanation given the abundance of other wi-fi enabled Apple devices in the country. In any event, Israeli authorities finally came to their senses about two weeks later and lifted the ban.

And onto something a bit more sexier.

Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli, of Sports Illustrated and Leonardo DiCaprio fame, recently traveled to Israel for a commercial appearance but forgot to declare her newly purchased iPad with Israeli customs officials. And as I’m sure you know, those guys don’t mess around.

The end result?

Refaeli had to pay 650 shekels (about $170) in taxes and fines to retrieve the device. The plus side is that it gives us an excuse to post a photo or two of Ms. Rafaeli.
