Steve Jobs’ keynote is underway, and he kicked things off with a bit of info about the iPad. Some of the more worthwhile tidbits are that there are now over 8.5 million native iPad apps in the App Store, and they’ve been downloaded over 35 million times to date. “That’s about 17 apps per iPad,” says Jobs, “that’s a GREAT number.”

And speaking of iPad apps, an update to Apple’s homegrown iBooks app will now let users create highlights and notes on e-Books while also enabling users to view and read PDFs. Notably, Jobs highlighted that the iBook store already accounts for 22% of the e-book market, according to publishers.
