Rumor: Apple considering rebranding OS X under iOS moniker

News, Rumors

Citing an anonymous source, Hardmac reports that Apple is toying with the idea of re-branding OS X under the iOS banner and using iOS as the default brand for every Apple OS.

We would then have iOS desktop, iOS server and iOS mobile. The final decision is not taken yet, however, the proposal seems to be well supported by the high management, it would give a better exposure and unity to Apple OS platforms while making communication easier.

Sounds a little off if you ask us, but this rumor is particularly interesting in light of another rumor that surfaced last week suggesting that Apple is planning to release a 22-inch multitouch iMac with an iOS layer integrated on top of OS X.

This doesn’t make any sense at all. What’s the obsession with putting a mobile OS on a stationary computer where you already have a mouse? This is just people making stuff up to get page views.
