AT&T announced this morning that they activated 3.2 million iPhones during the last quarter, a new company record. Approximately 27% of these activations were for customers brand new to AT&T. By way of comparison, it wasn’t uncommon in previous quarters to see up to 40% of iPhone activations attributable to new AT&T customers.

Either way, the iPhone 4 has been a bona fide hit for both Apple and AT&T, antennagate and all. Preorder sales alone for the iPhone 4 were 10 times higher than they were for the iPhone 3GS.

Earnings wise, AT&T reported EPS of $0.68, up from $0.54 in the same quarter a year-ago.
