With Steve Jobs on medical leave and Eric Schmidt no longer the CEO of Google, some fools have been suggesting that Schmidt might be a good CEO for Apple down on the line. Though Schmidt had previously served on Apple’s board of directors, he left on somewhat shaky terms in light of Google entering the smartphone market with gusto.

When asked about whether or not he’d take the position as Apple CEO during a recent CNBC interview, a ridiculous question to even ask, really, Schmidt dismissed the notion but didn’t really rule it out.

“In the first place,” Schmidt explained, “it’s not appropriate. Steve [Jobs] is still the CEO and I hope he continues forever.”

Jobs said earlier this month he was taking another leave of absence to focus on his health.
