There’s nothing more frustrating to a Mac OS X user than the dreaded spinning Beach Ball of death. Steve Jobs, though, doesn’t seem to mind at all. Pictured above is a young Jobs kicking around a Beach Ball at a 1987 NeXT company retreat.

The spinning beach ball of death, which is technically referred to as a spinning wait cursor in Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines was originally part of the NeXTSTEP operating system before finding its way into OS X after Apple purchased NeXT in 1996.

The SBBOD was comically referenced in a Season 8 episode of Family Guy. Check out the clip below.
