The long-awaited CDMA iPhone went on sale this past Thursday. But analysts and Apple watchers expecting to see long lines were treated to a different story. While some Apple Stores did encounter folks waiting patiently outside in the hours before the store opened, you probably wouldn’t have noticed anything out of the ordinary had you shown up to any of Apple’s retail stores this Thursday.

While the lack of long lines may have caught some by surprise, keep in mind that that the iPhone 5 is due to launch this Summer, a fact which perhaps kept interested iPhone purchasers at home. Moreover, let’s not forget that Verizon completely sold out of their iPhone 4 pre-orders in just a few hours, setting a pre-sale launch record in just 2 hours. It may very well be that most users looking to get the Verizon iPhone had already put their order in online.
