Lady Gaga’s recent single, Born This Way, was released on February 11 and is already the fastest selling single in iTunes history. The song currently holds the number one spot on the charts in 21 out of the 23 countries where it’s available, but far more interesting is the controversy the song is embroiled in.

If you take a listen to the song below, you’ll notice an uncanny similarity to Madonna’s Express Yourself.

Critics, including Madonna’s brother, have already called out Lady Gaga for allegedly lifting the melody outright. Not helping her cause, Lady Gaga, had previously mentioned that she wrote the song in just about 10 minutes. Which of course makes sense because who couldn’t make a song in 10 minutes if all you’re really doing is copying what someone else already created.

Below is Madonna’s video for Express Yourself. Take a listen and hit us up in the comments to let us know what you think.

The drumbeat in the chorus of “Born This Way” is similar to “Express Yourself,” but the melody is nothing like it.
