News, Rumors

With everyone going back and forth over the alleged design of the upcoming iPhone 4S, or perhaps iPhone 5, 9to5Mac quietly injects an interesting addition into the conversation, stating that Apple’s next-gen iPhone model may come in three varying capacities – 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB.

In all fairness, it is also plausible that the new iPhone will come in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB capacities, but the appearance of a tweaked iPhone 4 (N90A) seems to refute that. Provided that the 8GB iPhone 4 rumor is correct, it would make little sense for Apple to produce both an 8GB iPhone 4 and an 8GB iPhone 4S. For those who have been wondering – and who isn’t? – each of these capacities will come in both black and white.

As if the iPhone rumor mill wasn’t already discombobulated enough, now we’re throwing yet another variable into the equation. One thing’s for sure, though – with Android devices making significant gains in terms of marketshare, Apple needs to go all out with this iPhone refresh cycle to maintain its lead as the premier smartphone on the market.

Whether this manifests itself with a sleek new iPhone 5 type design or perhaps a 1-2 combo of an iPhone 4S upgrade coupled with a low-cost iPhone 4 device, Apple needs to deliver big this coming week given that the masses have been waiting for a new iPhone for nearly four months now!

Regarding a 64GB capacity iPhone 4/S device, note that this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about its existence. MIC Gadget back in early March got their hands on what they claimed was a 64GB prototype iPhone 4.

As it turns out, the 64GB iPhone 4 cannot be found for sale on the grey markets of Hong Kong. “The owner of this engineered prototype,” the report explains, “told us that he got it from a source who has a small quantity of these prototypes. They are definitely leaked from Foxconn’s factory in Shenzhen.”

And below is a video of the alleged device.
