Last year the iPhone wasn’t even considered a gaming platform, which makes its dominating performance at this years IGF Mobile Awards that much more impressive. Out of 7 categories in the competition, games developed for the iPhone and iPod Touch took home prizes in 6. Keep in mind that IGF stands for the Independent Games Festival, and as such, only independent developers were nominated.

Onto the rundown:

Best Mobile Game: Fieldrunners (iPhone/iPod Touch)

Innovation In Mobile Game Design: Galcon (iPhone/iPod Touch)

Achievement In Art: Fieldrunners (iPhone/iPod Touch)

Technical Achievement: Real Racing (iPhone/iPod Touch)

Audio Achievement: Zen Bound (iPhone/iPod Touch)

The Next Great Mobile Game: Reflection (Nintendo DS)

Best iPhone Game: Zen Bound (iPhone/iPod Touch)

Of course, the “Best iPhone Game” award wouldn’t go to a game for the DS or PSP. It’s also worth pointing out that the “Next Great Mobile Game” category is awarded to the most promising games that are still in a “prototype” phase.
