Bringing a Mac Plus to the Apple Genius Bar [Video]

Gizmodo came up with a brilliant idea – bring a 22 year old non-functioning Mac Plus to an Apple Genius Bar and record the hijinks.  Well, hijinks may be a bit strong of a word, but the dude manning the genius bar has a great reaction when he first sees the Mac that probably came out before he was even born.

In the end, there was nothing he could do as Apple, not surprisingly, only maintains parts for machines built during the past 5 years.  Oh well, anything in the name of some well-done guerilla style video footage.

Well, my MacPlus still works just fine, though I haven’t tried booting it for a couple of years. It’s still sitting in a nice nylon carrying case. I’ll probably keep it until I die since it was my first Mac. Too bad it’s not really worth very much. I’d thrown away my external SCSI 20MB (yup, 20 megabytes which is enough for three or four mp3 files) DataFrame drive years ago after it came to a grinding halt when the spindle bearings failed. Now I’ve got nothing but the internal floppy to boot from since the external floppy drive is long gone, too. That really brought back memories.
