Don’t get us wrong, we’re big fans of the Grand Theft Auto series, but the iPhone version of Chinatown Wars simply didn’t get the job done. Sure the graphics were alright and the gameplay was sort of acceptable, but maneuvering around on a tiny iPhone/iPod Touch screen just wasn’t up to snuff with the console experience we were used to. Truth be told, the game Gangstar from Gameloft was a lot more true to the real GTA experience, so to speak, than Chinatown Wars ever was, but that’s a whole another discussion.
Not everyone would agree with that assessment, however, and if you’re one of those folks, you might be happy to know that Grand Theft Auto: China Town Wars is now available for the iPad for $9.99. While we clearly thought the iPhone version of the app wasn’t worth $10, the larger screen real estate of the iPad might do a lot to change our minds. Notably, the iPad version of the app sports 1024×768 HD graphics along with new iPad-optimized control layouts, higher polygon count models, and all new lighting and effects.
