With the release of UFC Undisputed 2009 last year, MMA fans finally had a worthwhile game to call their own. Not to geek out too much, but UFC President Dana White loves recounting the tale of when the UFC brass met with EA executives to discuss the potential development of an MMA video game. As the story goes, the EA execs scoffed at the idea that mixed martial arts was a sport and essentially said there’d be no market for such a game.

Flash forward a few months and the UFC inked a deal with THQ where they would soon go on to develop UFC Undisputed 2009 and 2010. Along the way, though, MMA inched ever closer to the mainstream and EA Sports finally decided to hop aboard the bandwagon with their own offering titled EA Sports MMA.

Be warned, though, that EA’s MMA game doesn’t feature any UFC fighters, besides Randy Couture, and is essentially limited to the Strikeforce roster and an assortment of other MMA personalities. So while you won’t find Anderson Silva, Georges St. Pierre or Brock Lesnar in EA’s offering, you can still have fun putting on slick submissions and handing out brutal KO’s with the likes of Fedor Emelianenko and Rnaldo Jacare Souza.

And now, you’ll soon be able to play EA Sports MMA on your iPhone and iPod Touch. EA recently released a few screenshots of the upcoming mobile MMA game on their Facebook page, and while it’s still too early to wager what kind of gameplay and features to expect, there will apparently be a mini-game with bicep curls involved. Incidentally, the graphics don’t look all that inspiring. There’s no word on when EA Sports MMA will become available on the iPhone, but the console version will be available as a downloadable demo starting on September 28.
