Android overtakes Nokia as the most popular smartphone platform in Q4 2010

The research firm Canalys is reporting that Google’s Android platform is now more popular than Nokia’s Symbian platform, earning it the spot as the top smartphone platform on the market during the fourth quarter of 2010.

During Q4 of 2010, Android handset sales came in at 33.3 million units while Nokia handset sales checked in at 31 million units. Apple meanwhile came in third with 16.2 million iPhones sold during the quarter gone by.
