In the past three months, there have been three attempted “smash and grab” robberies at a single Apple store location in Naperville, Illinois. Apple stores provide thieves with attractive targets on account of the expensive hardware it houses in addition to the glass exterior that many Apple retail locations feature. Earlier this week, one man was left dead and two other individuals arrested following a deadly robbery gone wrong in Chula Vista, California. Indeed, reports of attempted robberies at Apple Stores aren’t too uncommon, with some now pointing the finger at the glass facades of Apple Stores as the root cause of so many attempted heists.

The USA Today recently reported that the FBI is currently assisting several law enforcement agencies nationwide with their investigations into Apple Store robberies that span the country, from Connecticut to California. “The crimes highlight the growing value of iPhones, iPads and MacBook computers that are tantalizingly displayed like jewelry just inside glass walls,” the report notes.

Below is a news clip from NBC Chicago discussing how Apple stores are increasingly becoming targets for thieves.
