Amazon last week released a new ad taking a clever swipe at Apple’s iPad. Whereas previous Kindle ads centered exclusively on the Kindle’s readability in sunlight (yawn), Amazon’s latest effort is more balanced and not too shabby. Of course, things kick off with a guy toting around what is clearly an iPad and lamenting his inability to read outdoors in the sunlight. But next, Amazon shows that the Kindle Fire is more than capable of running apps and playing movies. And for the Pièce de résistance, the commercial informs us that you purchase three Kindle devices at a lower cost than a single iPad.
All in all, a pretty good ad, but it’s gonna take a lot more than clever advertising to dethrone the iPad.
